JK Russ - The Golden Hour                                                      July 10 - Aug 29, 2023

JK Russ Originally from Aotearoa / New Zealand, JK Russ graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts from MIT in Auckland in 2001. In 2010 she relocated to Las Vegas with artist husband Matthew Couper.

Working predominantly with the medium of collage, she creates surreal scenes where hybrid humans merge with desert plants and creatures. An interest in the relationship of humans with their natural environment is a continuing thread through her work. The seductive opulence of the glittering city of Las Vegas, within the broader Mojave Desert context, infuses the new Golden Hour collage series. Russ takes inspiration from the magic “golden hour” when the sun descends behind the western Spring Mountains and bathes the city in soft gold light. And inside the casino hotels, the golden glow is constant, captured in the ornate pillars, mirrors, chandeliers and multitude of decorative elements.

In 2015, her work was selected to represent Art of the City by Vegas Magazine, and in 2016 she was named “Best Artist” by Desert Companion’s Best of the City awards. Her collage work has been shown at the UNLV Barrick Museum of Art, Nevada Museum of Art, Torrance Art Museum, and Sydney Contemporary Art Fair, and is held in collections at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Delano Hotel Las Vegas and Circa Resort & Casino.
