Paradice Palase/CouperRuss presentsInterior Landscapes
February 13, 2026 - March 22, 2026
Interior Landscapes brings together 10 US-based visual artists exploring the entanglement of inner and outer worlds—how anxiety, grief, desire, and resilience take shape through the body, the home, and the natural environment. A collaborative curation between CouperRuss and PARADICE PALASE, the selected works vary in material and scale, with processes ranging from photography, collage, textiles and embroidery, and mixed-media painting. Works range in size from intimate 5 x 7 inch pieces to large-scale works measuring 50 x 57 inches.
In times of external turmoil or internal grief, humans instinctively seek comfort through nature, their domiciles, and creative output. The artists in Interior Landscapes reflect on the home as both refuge and enclosure: a space that shields, nurtures, and holds us, but also isolates and amplifies the ouroboros of anxiety and comfort. In a post-pandemic world, domestic space has reasserted itself as a site of retreat—where we bring the outside in, while also closing ourselves off from what feels uncertain beyond the walls.
Motifs like snakes, flowers, fruit, plants, animal markings, and even Otomi-inspired figures emerge throughout the works as symbols that hold both vulnerability and power. Nature appears not as an idyllic escape, but as a model of resilience: plants often reclaim abandoned sites, weeds push through cracked sidewalks, beauty asserts itself into damaged terrain. These works examine the four walls that protect us and allow us to shelter, and ask what it means to make the unseen visible through delicate vulnerability and embedded narrative.
The exhibition pulses with tactile intensity. Deep blues and greens meet saturated reds and pinks; beads dangle heavily from fabrics both thick and thin, soft velvets yearn for human touch, corn husks and yarn conjure domestic memories, and cotton threads appear unusually loose or hardened. The textures and materials echo the exhibition’s central question: how do we survive what we cannot control, and how do we return to ourselves when the world feels unstable?
Ultimately, Interior Landscapes suggests that in times of uncertainty we turn inward—not to disappear, but to rebuild. Through craft, nature, and vulnerable intimacy, these artists offer pathways back to instinctual comfort, while also threading us together again.
